A Personal Rant

My husband and I are season pass holders to Carowinds. We brought four friends along to Scarowinds yesterday, some of which were unsure about going at all since the attractions were identical to last year's. They came along because of the discounted tickets available through our passes. Only one of the four friends ride coasters - the other three were there only for the haunted attractions. That means the $150 they collectively spent just to get in was just for the mazes.
I understand there were issues last week and I appreciate the security in the general areas of the park but enjoyment of the mazes was almost impossible due to extra uncostumed employees in every corner waving us through as frantically as possible. These mazes were clearly designed to be 5-10 minute walks but only took 2-3 minutes. Why even put detail into it if you can't enjoy it as a customer? It was unsettling in the wrong way to have stoic faces glaring at you for daring to stop long enough to point out a particularly interesting detail. The ones who were not giving you the "irritated dead eye" were rushing you through so quickly you couldn't even look at the monsters. The entire experience was alternating between bland and frustrating. The scariest actor was the janitor outside the zombie high school. That's a terrible statement to have to make.
The only thing that made the night good was the kaleidoscope operator. He was also a high point last year. A+ to him.
Part of our reasoning for purchasing season passes was unlimited trips to Scarowinds. At this point we may or may not go back. The illusion of danger that haunted attractions give was completely gone. I didn't even get the chance to feel nervous walking into mazes. In addition to the mazes being exactly identical to last year, the lack of random costumed actors throughout the park was a sad experience. In the past you could expect to be chased by monsters throughout the entire park, but they seemed to be very sparse except in the designated walkthroughs.
The reason I am making this a public post is because the last time I notified Carowinds about a potentially dangerous situation with ride safety I was rewarded with a generic response about how rides sometimes have to be stopped due to weather or other issues. My complaint was that the majority of the people working on a specific ride were more concerned with goofing off and not doing rider checks. They had to be forced to by another employee. Carowinds does not allow for posts on Facebook and this was my only long format option available.
